Washing Machine Spares that most commonly break

Drum lifters are one of the most common washer parts to fail on a washing machine. Drum paddles are found inside the drum, (they are triangular prism in shape) and these are used to help the clothes move around the drum. Drum paddles often break when the washing machine drum is overloaded or heavy items such as trainers or shoes are washed in them.

Washing Machine Pumps are used to discharge waste water from the drum out of the machine. Pumps can often get blocked or fail due to heavily soiled clothing items such as muddy sports clothing and it is advised that you clean you pump out on a regular basis. Washer Pumps can be accessed from the front of the machine hidden behind a flap in the bottom corner.

Heating elements are required to heat water to the washing temperature selected. Washer Elements are an internal spare part and are located inside the machine. Heating elements can often fail over time; you will notice this when if your clothes aren’t being cleaned and your water is not heating up. Limescale deposits build up on the element over time causing it to fail. To avoid this happening it is best to use a lime scale and detergent remover.

A door interlock on a washing machine is a common part to fail. The door interlock is an electronic component that stops the door from opening whilst the machine is on.  Unfortunately there is little that can be done to prevent this washing machine part from breaking. We stock many washing machine door interlocks for most leading brands and fortunately these parts are relatively cheap and easy to repair.

Carbon Brushes are another part which could need to be replaced as they wear over time. If your drum is failing to turn, the brushes may well be the cause of the problem, with parts breaking completely or not functioning properly, stopping the machine from working. Luckily carbon brushes are not too expensive and easily available from our warehouse.

Faulty or broken door handles can cause a huge problem, especially if you have washing stuck in the machine. Over time, through constant use, they can break, or by accident they may break off when someone has tried to open the door forcefully. Here at Spares Direct, we stock a range of different door handles for many leading manufacturers.
